Tesla factories are HUGE. We can actually see the logo from our hotel. The first time we went by the factory, the team was deeply impressed by the surface covered by the factory. Telsa bought the building back in 2010 and did a major overhaul inside out : white wall, windows in the ceiling, red paint everywhere, bike, cafeteria, concrete, open office space. When you pass those grey doors and enter the production floor, it’s impressive. Everything is clean and there is a lot of action. We did the tour in a little train with an employee who described the overall process. We did see the biggest metal sheet press in the world. A lot of robots, a lot of people, a ambiance of «go fast, we need it for 3 months ago» reigns at Tesla.

Tesla defines itself as an energy company. Their mission is to «accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable transport». Other than their cars, they sell battery packs, solar panels and solar rooftop.

We met a few minutes with our contact, Sébastien Quévillon. The big talk was postponed for the same night, at San Pedro Public Square. Everyone rejoined around 7 pm. Alongside, was one of Sebastien’s friend currently working at Apple. Around beers and food, we chatted for a good two hours about their experience, the sacrifice and the benefits of working in the Silicon Valley, the life and the paths that brought them to where they are. I have to say, I was insightful. Thanks for your time. I truly believe that those kind of meetings or just people we discovered along our mission is what makes any trip an experience of a lifetime.
